The Pão de Açúcar or Sugarloaf Mountain provides one of the best vistas across Rio and the Sugar Loaf Cable Car which is one of oldest cable cars in the world. Well worth a visit.
The Jardim Botanica (Botanical Gardens) is a good family day out. It serves as both an educational day as well as enjojable visit, where children and adults alike can stroll around the gardens.
The Tijuca National Park is the largest urban forest in the world. It was the initiative of Major Gomes Archer in the early 1900’ after years of deforestation for coffee plantations. He ensured the replanting of seedlings native to the Atlantic eco system. Today it is a really good family day out with fountains, lakes, parks, restaurants and baths.
Buzios Peninsula was once a quiet fishing village but nowadays it has a buzzing nightlife. There are over 20 beaches which border the peninsula. Excellent watersports provide activities for the active, or you could just chill on the beach. An 18 hole golf course, night clubs and art galleries populate the peninsula.
Barra da Tijuca Beach is the longest beach in Brazil and goes on for about 18 kms. It’s a hot spot for surfers, sailors, and body surfers.
